On Saturday, June 25th about 150 neighborhood residents came toegether to celebrate the official opening and unveiling of the new 6th Street Bridge and Public Art Project. Mayor Barrett and State and Local Elected officials were all on hand.  WISN-TV Channel 12 did a nice story about the project.  Watch it here.

The new 6th Street Bridge spans a wider river channel where some of the concrete that lines much of the KK River channel has already been removed.

Milwaukee’s Kinnickinnic River flows through neighborhoods on the south side of the city that are home to many people who rely on Sixteenth Street Community Health Center for care.  Over the past several years Sixteenth Street has brought community partners together to develop an action plan to restore the river, participated in river clean ups that have removed thousands of tons of debris from the river and worked with government agencies on more permanent river improvements.

Sixteenth Street's Parkway Health Center at 2906 S. 20th Street is located along the KK river.  Staff and patients participate in river-keeping, and have certain storm water management strategies in place such as a rain garden and rain barrell.

A community vegetable garden is also maintained by patients and staff as part of the wellness and active living component of our chronic disease/diabetes management program.
