Nutrition education has been an important element of Sixteenth Street programming for more than 30 years.
The mission of the Women, Infants & Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is to promote and maintain the health and well being of nutritionally at-risk pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children.
A carefully designed package of supplemental nutritious foods is provided by WIC to address the specific needs of participants at important stages of human growth and development. Nutrition education and counseling are provided to address both the WIC participants immediate nutritional risk condition and long-term goals to achieve improved dietary practices.
In addition, WIC serves to link participants to other vital health care and social services that, in conjuncion with improved nutrition, promote healthy lifestyles.
For additional information about WIC visit the Wisconsin WIC Program.
Sixteenth Street's WIC program is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 7:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The location is 1337 S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53204. Telephone (414)643-7554.
