Neighborhood Plan
Local governments and community groups have started a planning process for the neighborhoods surrounding the KK River Corridor. This process will help develop a strategy for flood management in the project area, which includes the neighborhoods between Chase Avenue, 27th Street, Lincoln Avenue and Oklahoma Avenue.
In this diverse neighborhood, participation is needed from all members of the community. The community has been asked to share their ideas about the following:
- Housing
- Safety
- Business development
- Roads, public land and bus service
- Parks and recreation
- Public access to the river
- Environmental improvement
- Flood management
Timeline/Involvement Process:

A River Runs Through Your Neighborhood
The KK River was once a free flowing river with a natural channel. Families would fish and hunt for crayfish, and spend time with their neighbors along the banks of the river. Decades ago, a concrete lining was put in place to move water through the area more quickly and to help prevent flooding. The concrete channel is now old and in need of replacement, while the river struggles with issues related to water quality and pollution. A number of neighborhood-based initiatives have already been undertaken to help clean up the KK River. Through this planning process, we now have another opportunity to improve the river corridor and reconnect it with the surrounding community.
